The big budget was well spent and Dan Curtis' direction was solid. The Holocaust scenes featuring John Gielgud and Jane Seymour are especially riveting and not for the faint of heart. It took me out of the show for a while until I suspended disbelief and enjoyed this great series for what it is: An epic, mostly successful recreation of World War II causes, leading figures, key battles and af termath. Robert Mitchum especially turned in a good performance but he was 64 in real life while his character was supposed to be about 45. My only criticism is that some of the actors were 15-20 years too old for their roles, and looked it. Tremendously entertaining with memorable characters obviously based on real World War Ii personalities as well as historically authentic recreations of Hitler, Stalin and Roosevelt. The very last of the big budget, multi night, veteran character actor based miniseries. Terrific 12 DVD version of the epic 1988 miniseries.
